Boardwalk Empire - Season 2 Discussion Thread

Season 2 of Boardwalk Empire started last night. Is anybody else watching it? I really enjoyed Season 1 and thought that the first episode of Season 2 continued right where things left off.

Anybody else see Dominic Chianese (Uncle Junior from The Sopranos?). I nearly missed it as I was sidetracked for a bit doing something else. I wonder if he will play a large role in Season 2? The fact that the credits listed him as "Guest Starring" makes me think no...but the part he had makes it seems like he may be part of a few episodes.

I shoulda watched at least the last 5 or so shows from last season to freshen up. I was a little lost with some of the details..

No. I saw his name in the credits at the end. I kind of dozed during the show. What part did he play?

He was at the funeral. I don't remember him speaking much, if at all, but the camera was placed on him at least two different times. He has a white beard with chops and is heavier than he was in The Sopranos.

Not going so well for Jimmy at the moment is it? I'm really enjoying this show so long may it last!
He doesn't have the balls to make the finale decisions and stick to his guns. As soon as others oppose his ideas he gets intimidated so easily and goes with what the others want to do. If he stuck with the initial plan that was concocted for Nucky I think things would be going a lot smoother for him.

His whole group are a bunch of amateurs, and idiots. They don't have the finesse Nucky has.

Yeah, he's definitely "shit in his mess kit" as far as his business with Nucky goes.
I expect some serious drama in the coming weeks.

It's awesome.
Though I'm bummed
Jimmy's wife died
as she was very veyr pretty to look at.

The best though is agent Nelson. Oh man is that role awesome.

Will have to try the first couple of episodes of this season on demand. Last year I got really bored with the show. Loved the aesthetic and some of the cast is quite good, but I ultimately found it dull.

It has it's dull moments, that's for sure, but overall, if you follow the story, it's pretty good.

Take time to read up on Nucky Johnson, the real-life person that Nucky Thompson is loosely based on...that's pretty interesting.

That and killing his father in the same episode. Obvious Oedipus reference is obvious.

At first I didn't really think it was a Oedipus reference, but after review it is. I was thinking of the Oedipus complex.

It does tackle it in an unusual way though, as I don't think that Jimmy really lusted after his mother, or even wanted to kill his father.

The mother initiated the sex (which he fought against at first), and also told him to kill the father (which I'm almost sure he wouldn't have done otherwise). He also just nearly killed her which I presume was because he realized that his mother was actually jealous of his wife and was happy she was dead.

At the end of the show, Jimmy's mom acts like she's going to be his son's mother and that she'd also be his "wife" when you take into account how she said she was putting his son to bed and that she'd "be upstairs."
