Hi Guys,
Lightning strike yesterday.... onboard usb, lan and sound gone from asus m4a78t-e.

I need to get a replacement board asap, and preferably an inexpensive one (under 100). I'm a little confused about the am3 socket support though. When I filter boards by II x4 support on newegg, all I get is the old asus board and an MSI open box board. Surely there is a wider range of boards available for this processor nowadays?

I was checking a few other sites (atacom was one), and saw a few other boards that claimed support for the x4. The same board/s on newegg made no such claim. I built the system back in 09 and admittedly I've been out of the loop for a while and my memory is somewhat foggy about north/south details and some of the technical stuff.

I was hoping that someone could post a link to some boards on newegg, or at least just let me know the main details of a board to look for that will support this processor. I only have 2x 2GB sticks in the board, so a replacement board with only 2 slots will be fine. Thanks for any help!

EDIT: I think what I need to do is go by the north bridge... would it be safe to go for anything above 790GX? Also, if a board has Phenom II support is the "x4" designation required, or will it support any number of cores?

Find a MSI 880GX board, they should work well and be on the cheap. I have a 890GX driving a x6 and its just what I wanted.

I guess I'm going to just pick out a cheap, well rated 880G, and that should be all I need. Thanks again for the advice!
