it rocks

Battletech is my favorite game of all time. I started playing it back in high school with a friend of mine who introduced me to the game. When I went to collage I found a group of people that played and one that I would have at least a monthly game against.

After college I moved back and started play against the friend from high school. After awhile he started to make excuses not to play since I was wiping him out every game.

Finally he challenged me to build a 35 Clan mech for a grudge match. I surprised him with a Gauss Rifle and took out his mech with one shot.

I liked Battletech, but it's been a long time since I played. Damn shame there aren't any new Battletech PC games. I'd really love a new turn based one.

Lots of good suggestions in here. To add my two cents, Full House, I have had lots of fun with it over the years. It is much like Monopoly:

My wife always cheats when we play board games...Just last night, we were all playing Monopoly in the den and she was .......next door fucking the neighbor

Battletech is one of my all time favorites too. But i could never find any one to play with me. I played MegaMek Net for a while, but those guys are GOOD. kicked my ass right proper. I would still play if i had 2+ hours to dedicate to one match. Just too time consuming.

This is where you start

If risk and monopoly are staples and both thoroughly enjoyed then I suggest
There are so many ways to play this it's awesome.

That said, there's a lot to be said for cooperative games; my favorite co-op games have secret teams that work against you, so my vote is for
No need to be into the show to like this game; as a matter of fact, I watched the show because I liked the game.

Ticket to ride, Carcassonne and Settler's of Catan have already been mentioned and deserve to be repeated as good 'next steps'.

A game that's highly dynamic and a great deal of fun, also already mentioned, is

Puerto Rico and Agricola are very similar to each-other and both amazing games.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention
I like to play this game once a year. It takes my group about 12 hours to work through the whole thing. It's a nice way to ring in the new year, because when it's over you realize how good life can be when you're not playing the game.

Saw Munchkin at Target about a month ago and picked it up. Wow, how did we miss out on this one for so long??

It's an awesome game with +4 GOOD friends and some beers.

I say good because if you have one person who had a bad day and you stomp on him/her...damn watch out 😛

DixiCrat: TI3 is another epic game but 6+ hours of playing is not really for eveyone...

I have the game + SE and sold them after only owning them for 3 months. Couldn't make it to te table...I have effing sissies for game buddies...damn!

How much pain is elicited by this game is a joke with my friends... start playing this at 8pm and be done by 8am... set "Manos: the hands of fate" to repeat and you've got yourself a rocking new-year's party.

Pandemic is a great coop game. One of the 2 board games my girlfriend wants to play with me, that and Through the Desert.

For those that like Pandemic, grab yourself a copy of Flash Point: Fire Rescue, you will enjoy it. Also supports 6 players!

For Board Games we generally stick to Settlers of Catan, Zombies, and Dread Pirate.

We tend to play more card based games though. The current crop of games we play are:

Munchkin
Inn Fighting
Naval War (A hard to find, awesomely fun, simple game)
Guillotine
Family Business
Mille Bornes

We tend to like the "screw the other players" type of games, especially if they are fairly quick to play.

Way back, we used to play longer strategy games like Axis and Allies, Risk and Battletech, but these games generally take a longer time to play than we can usually get together for, so quicker games have become the usual for us.

Yea, I know what your talking about.. with the board and the witches and the demon summoning.

How could you forget the name of the classic cooperative game of lovecraftian horror?

No when I was a kid my someone showed it to my mom and dad. What they did was use a mirror and then put the letters A-Z around it and the numbers 1-8 then a glass in the middle with everyone sitting around the table with a finger on ther glass. Then they ask is there any one out there etc etc and the glass started moving and it spelled out a lot of shit that they did not know of each other. I was like 7 or 8 at the time and were scared like crap later on lol

Then years later I notice that you can buy the board for it and so on.
