so a question to all you board monkies. do message boards need an off topic section in order to be successful? i look at the top sites on bigboards.com and they seem to follow a set pattern.

News Page/Main Page (usually not always)
General [whatever the site is about]
Offtopic Nefville
Politics Stuff
ton of niche forums losely related to the general one

Is this it? Kind of like how basketball has five semi-set positions a message board needs to have these five catagories? Give me your thoughts immediately.
 
Yes. Because its the only place that you can constantly surf and be able to read something new.
