I like this chip, i've had a Gigabyte 8IDX, but i feel the need for DDR. is there that big of a difference between 2100 and 2700? mushkin is the difference between $58 and $80, just looking for your suggestions / opinions here. I want a ddr board w/ an intel chipset that will let me oc well. onboard sound and lan are a must.

thanks
david

will the 1.6 use the 533 bus w/ the new i845G?
Yes, it can. If your 1.6A can overclock to 2.13 GHz (most can), you can use the 533 FSB. The DDR ram will also make a nice improvment. Get some decent PC2700. The Epox 4G4A is a nice 845G board.

how is the Epox 4G4A any better than my Gigabyte 8idx (except for that it uses DDR)? it said the Epox 4G4A only supported 2100 anyway, didn't you say to go w/ 2700?

It supports PC2700 DDR. There is a long thread about it in this forum and plenty of reviews on the net if you would like to learn more about it.

honestly, a SIS645DX MB would be a better investment. they are rock stable and give outstanding OC performance, use ddr333 and watch it fly. intel is not enough performance at too much of a price. it's like buying polo brand clothing. other clothes might wear better, but you want it because of the stupid ralph lauren horse guy...

Intel is faster, and certainly rock stable, better oveclockability than SiS, also has DDR333. They are NOT more expensive. Epox 4G4A 845G can be had for under $100.

and you can get an MSI sis 645 DX for less than $80. and the overclockablility is proven. plus dont forget the support for DDR400. at ddr400 it will SMOKE the intel chipsets.

SiS has no PCI/AGP lock and hits the wall @ ~ 150 FSB. 845 keeps going. You can always find something cheaper. MSI is typically a poor overclocker. I'll spend the extra $20 for BETTER. BTW, I'm running DDR400 on my 845D rig.
