Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a good motherboard for my new Tbird 1Ghz. I DONT plan on overclocking. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi I just built this combo and I've fallen in love. Great speed and stability. Asus A7V / Athlon TB 1gig / Asus V7700 pure / Soundblaster live! / 300 watt p/s ( a must ) / Windows ME Good Luck...

Please read the post previous to this one.

I have basically the same system as like2be, but mine has no stability at all. It seems as there are very different opinion on the ASUS A7V's performance. But when (if) it becomes stable I am sure it will be my first real love.

For no overclocking, probably the best board is the MSI K7T Pro it`s rock stable,I`ve been using mine since September last year,so it`s been through a long user test.Bear in mind you only have ATA-66 support with this board but that`s no big deal.

I just put together a system for one of my customers a couple of weeks ago using the MSI K7T Pro2a board, with a 1Ghz T-bird. I must say, it was the easiest system setup I have done in quite some time. Everything installed without a hitch, and before I loaded any OS, I loaded the latest BIOS (v2.2). Then Win98SE loaded within 20 minutes and all drivers installed normally, as did the rest of his applications. :)

I have been running the original K7T Pro without any issues since mid-October.....

If you're not going to over clock...MSI K7t Pro2-A has been best for me. No problems with mine and I haven't overclocked at all.

I have Abit KT7A-Raid working 100% fine includng the RAID with the following controllers pluged in on it:
- Hercules GeForce256 DDR-DVI
- Aver TV98 TV Tuner
- Pinnacle DV300 - two in one Adaptec 2940UW and IEEE 1394 (Firewire)
- Adaptec 2940 UW SCSI
- Creative Live Platinum
- 3Com 10/100 NIC
- Creative DxR3 DVD decoder
Have in mind that I do noncompressed vodeo on the RAID with 4x75GB IBM HDD's. I have both WinME and Win2000 installed and both work fine with the hardware. I have to confess that the setup of the system took me about 4-5 hours, but since then, already 2 weeks everything seems to be perfect. The RAID controller shares IRQ with the Ethernet card without conflicts. I think that the key to the success with more complicated setups is in using the latest drivers and BIOS versions. If certain order of the controllers doesn't work, just switch their places until they feel good. I think that this is one of the best ABIT's motherboards we've seen so far.

Another vote for the MSI K7T PRO2-A. Mine has been running flawlessly for over a month.

yet another vote for the Pro2a. Took a Duron 800 and made it into a 1-Gig @ 1.75v

darn thing is so rock solid, I've decided to hold off on upgrading to the KT133a boards until MSI comes out with theirs.

My buddy has an A7V and has had heartaches galore with it. Not necessarily indicative of ALL A7V's, however. That's just his experience with it.
