BNC uses the same plug as Analog D-Sub so you can just hook it up to any graphics card with an Analog output. I think the only reason why you would ever want to use BNC(British Naval Connector) over Analog D-Sub (That's the alternative cable you were reffering to as VGA) if you need to go for longer distances, I believe around 15 feet+. BNC is subject to less signal noise than D-Sub, so it may give a slightly better picture than D-Sub.
