BNC cable and refresh rate :(

I've just switched over to using a BNC cable for my monitor (Iiyama VisionMaster Pro 510) and I notice a difference in image quality. Colors are more pronounced and things are sharper. However, I can't adjust my refresh rate and it's killing me.

I'm stuck @ 60Hz (according to my monitor OSD) no matter the resolution. I can change the refresh output on my video card as normal (Radeon 8500 retail) But there's no effect on the monitor itself. I don't think this is normal... is there something wrong with my monitor/vid card/bnc cable?

I really hate wasting money =P

is the correct monitor listed in device manager?

remember that with bnc you lose plug and play for monitors

Thanks for the prompt response, the first thing I did was reinstall the proper driver for my monitor after hooking up the BNC cable. As usual my Display Settings tell me all the refresh and resolutions my monitor is capable of, but altering the refresh rate in the setttings has no effect on the monitor.

Also I have just noticed that cannot use the higher resolutions anymore (now it uses virtual desktop)

I wish the solution was that simple :)

That is true. You have to tell the OS which monitor you have and "force feed" the inf file.

well, as an idea, how about setting it the way you want with the VGA cable and then hot swapping it out for the BNC?

Hmmm very weird,I`ve BNC setup on mine and all I did was reinstall the monitor driver and it was fine what OS are you using?

You could try reinstalling your ATI Radeon 8500 drivers as well.

sohcrates, your last suggestion works, however after restarting my comp I have the same problems again. In order to keep it working, I have to swap the cables upon each windows bootup. Thanks very much for your effort though!

Mem, I'm using Win2k Pro, and I'm using 3286 release drivers for my Radeon. I know that they are very old (before the unified releases). In fact, the reason I'm currently using them is because I was having problems with system stability a few days ago and I know for a fact that I have never had an issue with this driver release. If you believe that it would be prudent to update my drivers, I will definately take it under consideration.

I had the same problem with my Mitsubishi, try this:

Go to the "Displays" tab in the advanced display properties. Click on the button that has the "monitor" label (below it is the picture of the monitor with the Resolution/refresh displayed). On the "attributes" tab. On the bottom is a list of resolutions on the left, and refresh rates on the right. Set the Maximum resolution and refresh rate for your Monitor. Hit apply and close it out. Now you should be able to change your refresh rate above 60hz.
