MSNBC has unconfirmed reports of partial clasped of building (reception hall, night club/discothèque) and official IDF reports of at least 30 injured and 1 dead.

It isn?t a coincidence that at this very moment Sharon and Bush are meeting together in the White House.

From Haaretz:

Army Radio reported that at least one person was killed and 30 injured in an explosion in Rishon Letzion, either at a banquetting hall or a disco, on Sakharov Street in the town's new industrial zone.

Initial reports stated that the explosion occurred at around 11:00 P.M., and emergency service were at the scene minutes later. The injured were evacuated to the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer and the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

Magen David Adom reported that there were dozens of injuries in the blast, which occurred on the first floor of the building, causing at least one upper floor, and possibly the entire building, to collapse. Reports state that several people are still trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building.

It was not initially clear whether the explosion was caused by a terrorist's bomb or some other source, although Army Radio said that it appeared to be the work of a suicide bomber.

An eyewitness who gave his first name as Oren told Israel Radio that he was near the scene at the time of the explosion. "I just ran away from there. I don't know if it's a terror attack," he said.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's advisers have been informed of the incident, and are deliberating whether to interrupt the meeting with U.S. President Bush to tell the two men about the explosion.

Not very coincidental. More like planned.

<< Good thing we let Arafat out >>

I doubt that it would have made any difference whether he was let out, kept at his compound or even killed. There are going to be those who oinly want violence. People like Bin Laden and Hussien don't want peace and they and their followers will do everything in their power to make sure that peace doesn't happen.

This just shows that the Arabs don?t want peace. Anytime they even try to start a peace process they kill more civilians. I think it?s about time for Israel to take off the gloves and screw what the Europeans and the other Arab countrys think and take care of this problem once and for all. They should start by killing, yes I said it, and they need to kill Chairman Arafat, take him out of the picture. Then deal with the militants, and I do not mean deporting them. We Americans need to stand side by side with Israel

The Palestinians have the chance now to even up the body count, The Israelies have had things easy for the last 3 weeks or so..

One day the Israekies will work out that this is not the way to a peacefull settlement, but they still have a few more years ahead.

//edit. They would never kill Arafat, atleast for the moment they have a recognisable face to blame all the suicide bombings on - if they get rid of him then who will be responsible for the attacks then? Because they will still happen, although more frequently.

Get ready for the hand wringing to begin in earnest. The IDF will be starting round 2 shortly. As Sean pointed out, the gloves will be off.

Exactly So if the Palestinians have a leader that can't control his own people, they need a new leader.

Ahh... Spoken like a true European.
Maybe you should apply that same sanctimonious, judgmental standard to your Bomber Friends. I'm sorry, I forgot, it's a double standard. :(

Just a thought, but what if Sharon set this up as somewhat of a deal breaker with the US. He's in a meeting right now, acutally just leaving the meeting, with Bush disclosing proof that arafat was involved with terrorism funding. What more of a dramatic exit than to have an act of terrorism pull him away?

I was being ironic.... It's the Israelies that are stupid! ( it's becuase they are occupying Palestinian land that they are having this trouble, give the land back, remove the illegal settlements and all will be fine, atleast the Palestinians can't moan.
