I just checked http://www.bmwusa.com and noticed you can now build your own 1-series.

Just for shitz & giggles, I built my own 135i:

Sedona Red Metallic
Coral Red Boston Leather
Glacier Silver Aluminum Trim
Heated Front Seats
Power Front Seats with Driver Seat Memory
Premium Hi-Fi System
Park Distance Control (Rear)

MSRP: $40,320 incl. Dest Charge

(I refuse to get NAV/Bluetooth because of iDrive.)

EDIT>> Oh wait, your username... I guess it is to you. And yeah, it's a bit overpriced considering the X5 (equiv to the 5-series starts at 45k). Starting at 28k hurts. And so do BMW options.

With a $35k base sub-compact, you'd hope metallic paint wouldn't cost $500 and keyless, power seats and leather would be standard.

If the car was a little better looking and $5K cheaper they would have a winner, but I know there isn't any way in hell I would pay $40K for that car(I would option mine similar to yours).

it's only $4,000 less than the 3 series... the 1 series starts at $28k, it seems a bit overpriced

I had the chance to sit in a 135i while in Munich two weeks ago. I am only 5'5" and with the driver's seat configured for me, there is still hardly any leg room left for rear passengers. That is how tight it is. Pretty much useless.

Have you seen the 335 vert? Not much better.

Ugh. I don't expect a convertible to have rear legroom but those seats appear to be flat as a board unless you're pushing 300lbs. I know Americans are all portrayed as obese but how is someone rotund such as that going to wedge themselves in the back?

I say put a luggage shelf back there if you're not gonna give it an honest effort.
