Saw that concept car today on the highway, well at least thats what the rear said - BMW Z9 - and it DID not look like anything i ever seen from BMW before...
Edit: 413 lb-ft of torque at 1750rpm's? They better put all wheel drive on that sucker cuz there's going to be massive amounts of wheel spin unless you feather the gas.
Edit2: Check out the Z9 convertible. It looks exactly like a TT with BMW's kidney grille.
Either you're lying, or the car my boss saw near BMW's plant in Greenville, SC (on his way to Atlanta) may have been driven all the way out to California for serious road testing. I haven't kept up with the news on this car, but it looks to me like they're really gonna build it!
I believe BMW has a testing center in California.. maybe Malibu, so it is not out of the question to see unreleased cars driving around. A few M3s were spotted before they were available. And my friend has seen the new Audi A4 at the Camarillo outlets.
I assure you, you did not see a Z9. There is only one of those: the concept, and that's in Frankfurt for the 2001 IAA. What you saw is the New BMW 7-Series (E65).
