BMW X5 with the McClaren F1 engine in it!

That's not an F1 engine.

It was modified for the X5 and is not nearly as fast as the Mclaren F1 engine.

But Mclaren F1 engine was made by BMW. This is a similar engine, but not the same.

Sounds good but whats the point of buildng a fast SUV?

You can surprise the hell out of the Carerra that's stopped next to you at a light... 🙂
Fixed... boxster isn't exactly a fast car by sports car standards.

yea, this is actually old news - they brought this out not very long after the x5 was released just to show how capable the x5 chassis was, i'm sure nfs4 can find us some older links🙂

You're half right. This is not a McLaren F1 engine - it is something rarer and more powerful - a full LeMans McLaren LMR prototype BMW engine (it produced more than 700 bhp, much more than the roadgoing F1), mated to a 6-speed manual transmission from an 8-series. They built this as a test bed for the X5's suspension. If memory serves it set very very quick times around the Nurburgring. Read more here.

A BMW engine in a BMW? *yawn*

😛

There's a McLaren F1 in Massachusetts (MA plate "MCLRN")... ask me how I know :Q

The McLarn F1 has 627 bhp. 63 isn't much much more imo L😛. 10% isn't that much. I think if you start hitting 40% more BHP that is a fair bit more 🙂
