Ok...my family is trying to decide on a SUV... We pretty much have it narrowed down to the BMW X3 2.5i or Nissan Murano SL. Can someone give me pros/cons on which car is better and for what reason? Or if there is a better SUV out there please let me know. We want to stay under 38g's and need the nav system.

This isn't the best place to ask about SUV's! Actually, I bet most online forums aren't good places to ask about this!

Those are both terrible cars and you should be shot for suggesting either.

i suggest a Toyota Landcruiser ;)
or if they are rather too pricey, a Prado...

Just about unbeatable off road, two fuel tanks means 1200odd-km range, rock solid build quality, loads of toyota garages about..

My folks love their Prado :D

EDIT: mind you, they are real 4WDs, not pussy suburban SUVs so that might put at least 90% of SUV buyers off ...

That's false.

There is a Federal law in the US that says that if a manufacturer requires their own brand of oil and filter for the warranty to be honoured, then the manufacturer must supply the oil and the filter for _FREE_ to the consumer. If the oil must be changed by a dealer, then the labor must also be _FREE_.

I've heard of this law, but I own a 03 accord and they require that you use Honda ATF. It's kind of expensive but not horribly so at $5 a quart, so no one has bitched too hard about it.

Magnuson-moss act?

-Oil change at VW is 30 bucks. Not sure what you are paying for with $100.
I've had a small korean woman walk on my back for less than 100 bucks.

Anyhow, 38k is too little for a real lux suv (ie rx330, mdx, lr3, xc90, srx etc.) so you'll have to get something basic. Honda Pilot for example. Great basic car-based suv. Or perhaps the redesigned Nissan Pathfindah. FX35 is nice. Ugly-ass car, but it drives good.

<insert slight plug here> If you wait for 2006, remember the fine folks at FoMoCo will have the LR2s and the XC50s out. Both priced reasonably below 30k.

Works because there's no other fluid out there that matches the specs for Honda's ATF/PS fluid. Honda doesn't specify Honda brand ATF, only that the ATF must meet Honda specifications. However, there aren't any other brands that do.

Meh. To the best of my knowledge, the specs for Honda's fluids are out there and available. Theoretically anyone could mix a batch of fluid that met them. Just has to be verified (independant labs).

Man, I did not realize how expensive these things were! You can't get the Volvo one for under 38,000?
