I think it looks fantastic. I have a Z4 Coupe and I'd kill to get into this (maybe I'll wait until there are huge knockdowns like there was for the Z4 at the end of 07.

In any event, I believe there is a Z2 in the works right? That is more in keeping with the old Z4's concept (little lighter, sportier, less luxurious?).

But I love the car. It looks a lot better than the old Z4. And for the record, whenever I see a Bimmer on the road with the base 235hp V6 it makes me want to cry.

In 07 or 06 the Z4's 3.0i became the 3.0 si and was bumped from 225 to 255 hp. Great engine. I'm getting about 28 mostly highway miles with it. Not as raw as my old S2000 but light years ahead in terms of "feel", luxuriousness.

Actually I just looked and I forgot that even in 06/07 they continued to make the still did make the 2.5 engine with 185hp. Bleh.

he's talking about the 06+ 3.0i (roadster only), same tune and intake as the 328.

I used to think so too.. but now there is this thing called the Audi RS-4..

Audi RS-4 > virtually anything BMW makes....

Ah. So the roadster didn't have an si? Or did it at that point? Kind of odd they didn't go the same route as the coupe.

roadster has 3.0i and 3.0si, its just that the coupe only came in the 3.0si trim. They are the same engine with different intake (2 stage vs 1) and software

LOL, Epic Fail

At BMW marketing HQ:

"Hey, we need a new ad but only have like $20 and some cameras."

"Okay, just buy some spray paint and drive around a white floor for 20 seconds, then we will loop it to music. Brilliant!"

Over 5 minutes of that? No thanks. The music was not cool and the camera work isn't that great, spidey. Plus they reused footage; lame.

too bad half the footage was used multiple times in the video. sorry, not an impressive ad. a cool ad, but not impressive.

The car looks good in real life imo. I like it a lot more thent he last gen Z4.

Koing

I love it. I do agree that BMW has several facets of competition they are pursuing and it is hurting them a bit. They have to compete with MB for luxury and boringness while they have to compete with Porsche for speed and sportiness.

IMO, I don't think they can compete and win all classifications at the same time. Although, the only people that can truly feel the difference between pure speed and sportiness with one that sacrifices a little speed and sportiness to add a little luxury, are those who track their cars. Most people don't track their cars, therefore, BMW has a winning combo on their hands.

Make a sportster that is powerful and sporty while being very comfortable.

How about Audi R8 > Bmw.*? 🙂

At best, the RS4 is an equal to the M3, but the Audis are always so heavy/cumbersome in comparison. It also sucks balls that the current RS4 is based on the old B7 platform, while S4/A4 are on the B8 platform.

RS4 can win some in pure drag racing, or racing in inclement conditions, but M3 is close enough in these, and brilliant enough on technical courses to seal the deal IMHO.

I'm mixed on the rest of the Audi vs. BMW comparisons, I do think the S5 and new TT are very good looking. The *4 series is bleh, the *6 series is bleh, and the *8 series are bleh. There's nothing dynamic or identifiable about them, just mushy blobs that look like extra-bored VWs.
