M3 and be done with it. sorry, just not a fan of the CTS-V.
i'm debating between an M3 and a Cayman S but I'm waiting for the 2013 specs.

or i could just save a ton of cash and go with a 370z.

I'd say a 535/550 or A6/S6 (I assume an S6 is coming?). Between those two it's probably a tossup based on personal preferences.

The M3 is a nice car, but is at the end of the current model and will be old news. I would have him wait for the new M3 or go with a 550i. Doesn't seem that he wants to do track days which is what the M3 is geared for. Even a 335is or whatever they call it would be a better choice for a DD.

He's currently driving a Silverado but wants something with two back seats for the kids (4 and .5). They have a Land Cruiser as the family vehicle but when his wife takes the SUV he doesn't like driving the kids around in the truck.

His first choice would be to get back into a 911 but he is willing to go with 4 doors. I think he should narrow his list to about 5 and test-drive the crap out of them (and I told him I want to go along).

.5? Do you mean a 6-month-old or so? I ask because baby seats these days are HUUUUUUGE. I wouldn't try it in an M3.

I was severely turned off by quality of a CTS-V I drove with ~25k miles on it. Trim was rattling in the back seat and the seat wiggled a bit. The M3 didn't really match the kind of driving I like to do, but I did fall in love with the C63 and I'm picking one up in December :)

this is insanely badass and awesome.

The sucky thing about it is we needed to pull the carbon fiber GT3 shells she had in it out, and put the regular seats back in. With non-folding seats, it's too dangerous egress wise for rear passengers in case of an accident.

:( Reality does suck some of the badassery out of it.

I think kids love sports car more than the adults. I know my daughter loves riding in the Corvette with me. She thinks it's a racing car. My cousin has a car seat in back of his 911 Turbo. His 2 yr old loves riding in the back. And once the kid gets little older you can just use booster seats. For short trips around town, it's no problem. My younger cousin came over today in his 360 with his 3 yr old and we went grabbed lunch. Here's picture of him today sitting in his booster seat playing with the iphone.

Update: Brother was financially emasculated over the weekend. He had his budget cut to under $50K and his wife likes the new TL (which I think is hideous even with a nose job). :(

This. I have a 328i sedan, and there is zero chance of fitting a rear facing car seat behind the drivers seat. Behind the passenger seat it'd squish the front passenger pretty bad.

Not an issue for me right now as I only have one, so it's in the middle seat. The top is sitting between the driver and passenger head rest.

In my wife's Sonata it'd still be tough rear facing behind the driver.

I rented a Lotus Elise a few years ago and drove my son around in it quite a bit. He loved it. I even took him out with my wife a few times to look at Christmas lights. He had to duck down if we passed a cop though so they couldn't see him. :ninja:
