After owning a BMW that was expensive to upkeep, buying this car was great. I love the gas mileage and it is fun to drive. The sound system rocks!

Love the sunroof and sound system. Gas mileage is great.

I don't doubt that the Elantra is a great car.

With no further information, I will guess that he is a 20-something male who spent half his income on that BMW's loan payments and insurance. Thus, the Elantra is the better car for him right now.

One of the doctors at work has an X5. He said that if the deal fell through on it, he would have bought a Hyundai. Apparently his daughter has one and they think it's an excellent car.

I love my Elantra GT to death, but unless they've improved the sound system since I bought mine (2005) I think he's nuts...

I'm no fan of Hyundais, but OTOH I really don't find this surprising. BMW is pretty much the opposite of Ferengi. Great cars that BMWs are, owning one is like paying retail over and over and over again. Which, near as I can tell, is the whole point.

I'd agree, Hyundai is where you get the best value for your dollar. For BMW, you'll have to pay twice as much, and only get a marginal improvement. Maybe not twice, but my point is that for something better, you have to pay quite a bit. Hyundai's going to fill the value portion of the market very well and if they continue to build reliable cars, it's no doubt that people will look to them for a car.

Edit: Some BMW owners will be getting riled up because of Hyundai's marketing and advertising, but why? Some will feel confident about their purchase, however others will be getting irritated because they feel they would have been better off with what Hyundai is creating and they just show it through bashing Hyundai. Of course the usual BMW/Audi fanboy crowd is going to hate on it as well. Once you look past those groups of people, you'll see the Hyundai really does have a bright future.

Hyundais are crap. My roommate has owned 2 of them (97 Tiburon & 2001 Santa Fe). Both had nonstop problems which is why they offer a 100K mile warranty. He vows to never give them the benefit of the doubt again. Horrible cars.

no sh!t.
i don't like Hyundai marketing, they should market to their own demographic. comparing themselves to Lexus and BMW in TV commercials is downright disgusting.

i don't have anything against them as a car company or their cars, but they should compare themselves to Honda and Nissans and Toyotas. don't go a class above.

I don't see Honda comparing themselves to Lamborghini.
