I don't know that I see the point of these kinds of giant super-sedans in the United States (though in Germany, why not?). This is definitely the ultimate executive autobahn-stormer, but does the 760i really need more power? I think powerful BMWs should be trackable cars, and this thing is just too big and heavy for that kind of treatment.

I hope the production model doesn't have a riveted panel on the hood like that one. Overall it is a pretty bland upgrade on the outside to the 7 series.

~600hp / ~735tq

Interesting, if they can figure a way to deliver the power to the ground. The ultra-high-HP/TQ Mercs never seem to deliver truly exceptional performance compared to BMW and even GM products.

I've seen all kinds of cars speed past on the highway but never in my life a 7 series. Dude's with gray hair get their thrills in other ways.

Or is it?? It could be a hybrid BMW is prepping.

I think so because:
1) BMW start making an M7 now??? They didn't even make a Z4 M yet (or announce it)

2) There's the Alpina B7, BMW's sort of client tuning company that retools some of their cars (Saw a B7 the other day, pretty cool car )

3) BMW usually makes their M cars pretty distinctive. Aside from that grille, I'm not getting that vibe here. Maybe some hood scoops/vents like the M3 has (which I <3).

Mercs that produce that much power are either tuned by brabus, which turbo's the shit out of everything and then does not emphasize the tires or the design of the car that much, OR, they are the CL 65 AMG which actually does put down its power, it's slower than other 600 horsepower cars because of its luxuries and weight.

Very cool car, but I can't see myself ever getting one.

And to be fair unless you see it in person it's hard to comment. It's actually a pretty handsome machine.

Well, I was thinking to the days of the AMG SL55 vs. the SL65.

The SL65 (whatever the gen that was the 2005/2006 models) had 604hp/738tq, but it was actually slower than the SL55 in 0-60 and 1/4 mile according to most tests. It was just unable to put all the power to the ground without drag slicks.

The newer AMG Black edition seems like a real turning point for Mercedes, doing actual full-body sport tuning instead of just tossing in a whopping big motor for the most part.

Yes, the Mercedes Black AMGs are tight.

But I have to say, I am obsessed with the C32 AMG that was being driven around on that road SSSnail posted.

That new 7 series is one of the ugliest new cars on the road. Only thing I can think of which is in the same league is probably the new Acura TL.

The 7 series up close and personal is actually quite beautiful. I drove the 750i, quite a nice car. Very quiet and certainly hauled ass.

That seems like an excessively harsh criticism to me - if anything the new 7 series can accurately be accused of looking a little bland, but it's certainly better than the old car IMO. The TL, on the other hand, is admittedly a monstrosity - actually I think the TL and its stablemate the TSX might be the ugliest new designs in the last couple of years.
