BMW M6 test track *Video*

Wow.... just... wow.

But if the regular 645i costs $63,000, and the old M5 cost about $65,000, how much is this thing gonna cost? Might be pushing $90k...

Well if the new m5 is pushing 90 easily [from what i hear] your estimations would be indeed correct.

My point is that the 6-series is about $15-20k more than the 5-series, so will this price difference carry into the Ms?

The old M5's MSRP was $65,000, but as I understand it, they were actually sold up around $85k.

Meh, for nearly $85k, I rather spend a bit more and get this.

Awesome car though.

The current gen M5 sits around $90k.

The M-class has very little to do with their normal-series counterparts. Initial styling cues, perhaps, but M-class vehicles quickly become their own breed. The M3 is hardly recognizable as a 3-series, the M5 is semi-recognizable as a 5-series sedan, but look at the M3 vs. M5 price gap and you'll figure out their pricing scheme on your own.

The M5, simply because of the fact that it's an ultra-luxury-performance-powerhouse-sedan-thing will retain the top pricing seat above the M6. The M6 will be up there, though. Assuming it has all the same internals of the M5, except under a 6-series-ish body, I figure maybe $10k less than the M5.

IMHO, this is BMW's answer to the "OMGWTFSEDANSSUCK" syndrome that has people that can afford an M5 buying the M3. In fact, I'm not certain that the M5 is even sold stateside (Except by request) anymore - it certainly isn't on their American website.

damn nice car gave me the shivers when watching the video.

i raced a regular 6 series the other day and it raped my xterra lol. TWICE. he actually waited for me at the next stop light :-O

Beating an Xterra is hardly an achievement, is it?

You know what will really suprise you? An X5 with the same basic drivetrain, it has a 4.6L v8 I believe, and they haul balls, especially for an SUV. I had one smack the crap out of my Acura TL one day, repeatedly, from stop light to stop light. He had nice exhaust, sound GREAT.

I bet the M6 costs as much or more than the M5.

And the M5 is out of production everywhere right, now, awaiting the fancy new v10 version to come into full production.

And what's this about the M-series being totally different? Up until the '06 model year, the M-series has been the same basic car with different styling and a bored engine. The M3 was an iron block version of the 3.0 found in the 330i, but bored to 3.2L. The M5 was a 4.8l v8 bored from the 4.4l v8 in the 540i. I mean, obviously there are other performance, braking and suspension changes, but the cars were at least based on the lower models. With the advent of this v10 powerplant, all that's changed though.

Take a 330i and give it to your local BMW dealership for a Dinan makeover. Then you can have a 3-series that will smoke an m3. I believe they offer both super and turbocharging, along with other, milder power solutions. Might end up costing more than an m3 though.
