BMW fires - read on...

The article was very anecdotal, is there a better source for actual car related fires due to manufacturer defects? I see mention of 90 complaints and recalls of older models, but nothing stating this was an epidemic among the newer ones. It also casually mentioned that many other car manufacturers have have recalls lately due to similar issues.

BMW diesels catching fire while parked was/is huge problem in South Korea. It got so bad that many places started banning BMW from parking. $10 million is slap in the wrist. BMW is at fault and won't really fix or compensate owners. It's terrible. And Korean govt is too pro business to really put the hammer on BMW like needed.

I guess they don't want people setting their old car on fire and begging for replacements/settlements but its so strange to me that they only offered one lady 3000 + 1500 for a car fire AND told her to keep quiet about it. That's an insulting offer, almost begging for more trouble. Is this one of those clear disconnects between corporate and reality? Some policy they have to follow? They make hundreds of millions a year and we are talking about 90 complaints in this report... give them a new car... or hell a CPO one... AT LEAST offer replacement value lol.

There's clearly evidence of something wrong with at least some of the cars resulting in devastating losses for some, evidence of cover-up, and no real liability? What an unregulated nightmare, not unlike other safety-compromised designs going way back. The SK angle is interesting.

B'mers are popular here, and for any known part/lot whatever, if I had the same I'd park outside, sell, swallow my pride, and buy a Toy/Lex. [or risk the inflammatory wait for a class-action? or parts?]
