The only Bangle design I DON'T like is the new 5 series. I like all the others.

the E46 is a bangle design, and is pretty nice. i dont' like it as much as the E36, but it certainly isn't fugly.Originally posted by: Doggiedog
I think the majority will say the opposite.
The sales numbers don't lie.
The only good Bangle design was the X5.

but anyway, it is hard to replace the best in the world and not screw up. it's just that BMW screwed up in so many different ways...

The front of the E46 was pretty bad in its first few iterations until they fixed it with the last refresh.

Yeah, I have to agree. Those penlight-sized foglights look like crap, and the "shapely" new headlights are also awful. I still think it's a handsome car on balance, but less so than it was before this styling "refresh."

I argue Styling is not THE issue keeping buyers away. It's iDrive. Go read some BMW car forums. iDrive is based off of WinCE I think, and literally everytime something goes wrong, from the cruise control not working to the radio not keeping presets, the car has to go in for a software upgrade. Imagine if you had to take your car in to the shop as often as you ran Windows Update at home. It's a headache UNDER warranty, and I can't imagine how expensive it would be otherwise.
Recent post at roadfly.org by a BMW 645 owner ($75K car):
Haven't gone back in yet to get the missing voice function fixed (lost it when I went to version 13.0) as I'm waiting for 13.3 to arrive momentarily and will get that at the same time. We're hoping that'll take care of the I-drive problem, but will see.
From another 645 owner:
Software version 13.2 is supposed to help keep the Rollover Protection Fault from coming on erroneously.
From another:
I have had my car for only 350 miles, but long enough now to have noticed an undercurrent of minor computer malfunctions. Lost presets, trunk malfunction, volume control doesn't work, all sound suddenly gone. All transient, but present long enough to be a nuisance and to know they will recur and at some unpredictable time be a major problem...I am left with a feeling that for a car of $80-90 K US, that this car/computer was not ready for release. There is no question that mechanically the car/computer is incredible, but it is becoming clear to me from reading this board and from my own experiences, that the problem is that the car is the marriage of a great machine, with a less than mediocre computer. As with any computer only some of the bugs will be fixed with software. To correct all of the problems may require hardware fixes not necesarily available, or ever offered.

Not compared to the old one.
At least the M5 will rock, though I like the beefy V8 row-your-own-6 speed of the previous gen
I thought last generation 5 looked kinda bland. The new one looks more sleek and stylish.

all the older folks i've talked to don't like the new designs (not liking the 5 series, but somewhat ok w/ the 7 series), but it's popular among younger professionals. i'm 22 and most people my age that i talk to love the new 5 series, yet the older people at work don't like it at all.
those quotes from the bmw forums are unbelievable! that problem definitely needs to be resolved.
