BMW 335i Turbo

Yuck.

EDIT: I see this car ending up priced somewhere around 25-30K. Compared to the new Miata, Solstice, or Sky, it'll be too expensive, more ugly, and less fun to drive. Compared to the SLK, Boxster, or Z4, it'll be too lacking in creature comforts, more ugly, and less fun to drive. Seems like BMW made this car specifically for brand whores who don't give a crap about performance, quality, or looks.

/end rant

Nice find! Turbo should put out around 300-325HP I would say. Needs to bridge the gap between the 255HP 330i and the 400HP next-gen M3. I bet the 325i will be phased out when the 335i becomes widely available.

I don't know if that's true. By removing the 325i you're cutting out the most affordable 3 series available. It makes more sense to me to phase out the 330i. Then you'd have the 325i, 335i (335it?), and the M3. The spacing is a little better that way, plus you can still keep one car at or around 30-35K or so.

EDIT: I was thinking about your comment a little more. A 3.5L turbocharged engine sounds to me like the 3.6L I6 from the E46 M3 destroked to 3.5 to reduce the compression to accept FI. If that's the case, and the 3.6L engine produces 333hp, that 3.5L turboed version should easily produce more than that, even at low boost. For example, the B5 S4 has the same 2.8L V6 as the A4 2.8, destroked to 2.7L and twin turbocharged. When that was done, output increased from 190hp to 265. If BMW is going the same route, that 3.5L turbo should be good for at least 350, if not more.

How does that pic prove anything about the existance of a turbo?

At any rate, BMW has had turbocharged cars in Europe for years. Maybe not lately, but I've seen my share of grey market turbo'd 7 series from the 80's (turbo 6).

BMW created the 1-series to compete with the European Audi A2 and the Mercedes A Klasse. I seriously doubt if it will ever find it's way to US shores. It is one cheap and ugly model that BMW should be embarrassed to market.

BMW is planning a sedan and coupe version of the 1 for the US.

That's a shame. I've seen the 1 series in person and it is pretty pathetic looking to say the least. Cheapens the BMW badge!

I think the 1 series is pretty good looking and the 130i should be a powerful little car.

what they're actually doing is dropping both the 330 and 325 name plates and bringing back the 328 nameplate. i imagine the 328 will have the same 3 liter I6 that is currently used in both the 325 and 330, and it will split the HP difference between those two models. thus it shouldn't cost any more than the 325. the 335 is probably going to end up around or above 300 HP to compete with lexus and infiniti. turbo might be 350+. and the v8 m3 about 425.
