The new Bimmer isn't properly comparable to the old chassis. Apples and oranges.

That said... the 325s aren't really powerful. Add Xdrive and it's a friggin pig.

The new 325 actually has a 3.0 liter I6 now instead of the 2.5. It's faste than the 'old' 330.

For instance there is a certain off ramp that I take off the interstate every day coming home from work. It is banked at a decent angle and completes almost a full circle and is about a mile long from the start coming off the interstate to the traffic light.

The fastest speed the BMW ever safely could take this curve was 70 mph. The LS does it at 80 mph all day and doesn't complain about it. The BMW felt very squirrelly at anything over 70 and was just unsafe.

Again the BWM is a great car, no one will be disappointed with one. The 06+ cars finally have the engine power everyone else has had for years. I went from the BMW to a 280 HP Lincoln LS V8 which was quite a jump in power.

Anyway the BMW and Lincoln are both great cars.

You got a dud.

No, I didn't. I even test drove several new (at the time) 3-series cars on the same curve to make sure.

But again feel free to disagree - I have no emotionel attachment to car brands. If Toyota came out with a car that would out handle a BMW I wouldn't try to deny it.

so which year was the bmw? and what exactly does it mean when a car drives "squirrelly"

I had a '98 328i slightly modified and never drove a finer car. I miss it terribly.

I'd recommend the 330 for the few more HP and install the shark injector chip and cold air intake from K&N and you'll be set!!!

They did? For some reason I can't find Top Gear on tv anymore. I don't know what happened.

discovery channel completely botched it and ruined it.

Why is that BMWs seem a bit underpowered to me? I mean many of the other cars in it's class are hitting the 300hp mark, yet their top end 3 series is only at about 250.

Don't get me wrong, I've always wanted a BMW and will own one in the future. It's just that besides the great handling and awesome looks, you don't get very much for your money.

The reason being most people don't buy BMW for their power. Most people buy BMW for their name, looks (beauty is in the eyes of beholder) and handling. You can get a very powerful Mustang or STI for a lot less money. But not everything is about a straight line race. The smile on you face everytime you get into your BMW will justify the money spend. Drive one and you'll understand.

BMW drivers are such funny people.

What's the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?

With a porcupine, the pricks are on the outside.

the new 325 has a 3 liter in it... why didn't they just do variations of the 330... is the the first time they've skewed away from their numbering/engine size?

The 325/330 would run circles around your car, no joke. It is built much more solid, and it will perform much better in everything but straight line acceleration. it is much more refined than the G35. Can't really compare the two, even tho they are in the same price category. I think G35's though can be had for less than the 2006 325i.

Sorry. The 325 will not run circles around the G35. The 330, maybe, but not the 325. I've owned a 325 and the 325 does not have enough power to keep up with the G35.

The ignition was absolutely stupid. It was a total gimmick. What's the point of a keyless ignition if you still have to place the electronic key into the dash? If you could keep the key in your pocket and just push a button, I can understand but the way BMW has it is stupid and just a gimmick.

Mind you, I like BMWs and would have gotten the 325/330xi if it was out at the time but for the money, you can't argue the G35 is a better deal.

The point of the electronic key? If you get the Comfort Package you can enter the car (it unlocks when you touch it), and press the start button. Thats it you just have to have the key somewhere inside the car. If you take the key out of the car while it is running a warning light will go on. You can actually drive off without the key, you can also restart the engine within 10 minutes of it stalling (manual) without the key.

The e90 isn't about power, but rather the ride and handling, which I found to be spot on. I was thinking about getting a G35 also. Difficult choice.

i believe the stupid thing about it is u still need the key. the lexus IS350, though they 'copied' the push button start... is pure keyless.

Really? When I demoed the 330i, the electronic key went into some little socket with these small clips. I thought it looked pretty flimsy. I guess it wasn't the true keyless ignition version.

The 330i I test drove was an auto and my G35 is stick so its hard to compare but I felt the G35 just drove better. Regardless, they are both nice cars.

The car has to have the comfort package in it, a $500 option. I didn't see lot of cars in the lot with it, I guess delears didn't want to order it or something.

I haven't tested a G35 yet. I'll go to that next.
