i maxed out my 330cic for 52K, but the M convertible was 55K base at the time - I should have upgraded. I still love my car, 100K miles now and almost 9 years old. These cars are amazing machines, the BMW brand model has been all over the place since the e46...no idea where to go from here.

I haven't been a huge fan of BMW in quite awhile, but I am not minding this 2 series. I might check it out when my current lease is up. The 4 series is just getting too large for my tastes.

yeah the 30K Mercedez looks nice, I doubt it drives like a BMW but I definitely like their sport package looks - classy

i3 is lining up for a quite a showing. It won`t be what the CLA is for Mercedes in terms of sales success, however its a product which next generation lovers will go for.

twin turbo i6

Current N55 is a "twin scroll" turbo, which is a single turbo by the way most people would look at it. It's a trick with the fins.

Not trying to nitpick, just FYI if anyone cares.

It's 200 lbs. lighter than the 1 series

Per the international site, it looks like the 2 Series actually ended up about 100 pounds heavier than the 1. Not sure if that's apples to apples but it's the "unladen" weights from the site.

Curious the 2 is not on the BMW-USA site yet.

I'd figure its bigger too . the new 335i weighs a little more than the old one but its a much roomier car than the e90 one. I think it's only 50 lbs or so.

I'd guess the 228 weighs less than the 128 just like the new 328 since the turbo 4 is a lot lighter.

Its the norm with BMW. For instance Mini, owned and designed by BMW's new cooper was stated to have dropped a couple pounds in their Europe Official Release statement. However when a designer was asked specifically the weight for the NADM version, the cooper gained weight for various safety tech. So understandable.

Fyi the twinscroll turbos seem to still have some HPFP issues (not as much as though in the initial N54 days). Im guessing the M version of the 2 would have a modern version of the N54 with bi-turbos.

^Bmw finance honchos would disagree, as BMW, in addition to MB, Audi have become the luxury's classes Toyota in volume and offerings.

The years when the 3 series owned the sedan/coupe market are over, they're changing models every other year. e46 was the last good series, of course I'm biased.

Any E series was a remarkable drivers car over their current F-platform successors. The steering is Toyota like (not that Toyota's steering feel is wrong for their purpose), and they seem heavy (almost tank like). However I think their M versions (Not M-Sport) offer what purists are looking for.

I sat in the F15 X5 and compared it to the E70 X5 and it was night and day. The e70 is a drivers CUV vs the F15 being a mommy certified CUV.

I wouldn't consider either of them compact utility vehicles. I'm still not sold on the electric steering, but they have added DPC to the F15 which was only available on the E70 M. I'll have to see what they do with the M variant when it's time to trade in, may need to wait for the LCI though which is why I picked up a '13 when it became clear what direction they were going with the F15.
