Ok, I got a 20 inch flat screen crt off ebay. After about the first hour of use, the screen got all out of focus and blurry, and since then a good 5 or 10 minutes after i turn it on again it does the same thing. This sounds like the problem I've seen where older crt monitors focus controls stop working right, and you'd have to open the crt up and adjust them to fix it (which I'm not planning to do). However, two things don't seem to fit:

1. It's not super old, january 2002 is the date on it
2. it works for a little bit and then stops; I was under the impression the no focus issue was something that would occur immediately.

I already played around with the refresh rate, resolution, moire, brightness/contrast, etc., and nothing helped. I will probably be able to return or exchange it, but I want to see if there's something else it could be.

edit: oh yeah did moire too so don't suggest that

Sounds like the monitor is bad, oh and you are hardly the last mccabe..there are lots of us out there...did the person on e-bay have good reviews?? have you tried another cable, or tried the monitor on another PC?

Thanks for the response. The cable is attached permanently unfortunately, but I did try another monitor and it works fine. The person on ebay has good reviews and they are so far being very cooperative with returning it, so I think I'll be ok. I am the last McCabe because it's my first name...and my whole world would come crashing down if I ever met anyone else named that...

If the focus changes over time, the focus control is not going to help (assuming you find one - modern monitors generally don't have one anymore).

They ALL do on the high voltage transformer. High end monitors are adjustable without taking the back off.
