blurry text with NEC 19" FE991sb monitor @85Hz

Hi, just got this monitor...

i have a Geforce card and the resolution is 1280*1024@32bpp

refreshrate at 75hz, if i set the resolution to 85Hz(highest)

the text will seem "blurrier" than 75Hz.

so, is this normal?

I have heard/read the text on most GF1-GF3 cards gets blurrier when you get above 10X7.

LOL- I guess I should add that I've also seen this on the several GF1/2/3s I've owned. Radeons/GF4/Matrox will give you better text at high resolutions.

This doesn't sound normal if i'm honest. It goes back to the early days when nVidia left it to the Card Manufacturers to choose the filters which were to be used and some opted for cheaper filters to keep the cost down, this of course caused quite a few issues with 2D visual quality.

I know this is a pain but can you borrow another GeForce card to test if it is your monitor? 😉

GeForce cards aren't all that great with 2D....they have gotten better though.
But yeah, it's your video card.

yes, I've a Diamond Stealth3D 2000 (S3 something) acts like that,
at 85Hz everything is blurrier than at 75Hz.
the monitor can do 100Hz sharp with ATI card.

I have the same monitor and the same problem although I'm running on a Radeon 8500 for the time being. Anything about 75hz is just unpleasent to look at @1280x1024+ I'm not sure if it's the monitor or the card, but I've always had great luck with ATI's 2d quality. Also, when running at higher refresh rates you can see the screen shake ever so slightly, being most noticable in the corners. Have you noticed this? Other than this, the monitor is outstanding, very crisp!

It's actually quite normal. The higher you pumpt the refresh rate, the more stress your putting on the monitor, so to maintain the image, they take it out in quality. Happens on lower end monitors (my AOC did that, dunn about my NEC AS 90 though).

No, although it may be normal, it is definitely not right. His older Geforce card is almost certainly the problem. Newer GF4 cards tend to have better 2D quality, but they still aren't on the same level as ATI and Matrox.
