Someone just gave me a used monitor (19 inch) very nice but I notice that certain parts of the texts on the screen are slightly blurry. Any thoughts, do I need to update drivers?

Thanks

It looks like only certain sections of the desktop is a little fuzzy while others are clear. It seems like I had this problem at work a while back and the tech guys fixed it but not sure what they did.

I had this problem at work with my Optiquest after they RMA'ed it back to me, I took the cover off the back
and found the manual focus knob. It fixed all my problems but I dont recommend it unless you know what you
are doing. Its good to use a plastic tipped philips screw driver for adjusting this and you must have the
monitor on to watch it focus in, its a very sensitive adjustment.

No problem, I forgot to mention that there most likely will be a Hfocus and VFocus
Hfocus= Horizontal focus
Vfocus-Vertical focus

Your best bet is to mark the little knob with something ie marker, fingernail polish
so you no where you began at

It seems that the "fuzziness" is much better on a resolution of 800x600 vs 1024x768 which is much worse.

On 800x600 most of the fuzziness is in the corners and not in the center.

I wonder if taking the casing off to get to the manual focus will void the warranty?

Someone gave it to me but according the the manuf website it is still under the 3 year warranty.

It will void the warrantee if you make it obvious, like pry marks trying to open it, striped screws.
What kind of monitor is it? (Make and Model) You take the chance on voiding the warrantee
when you try and fix it yourself, but sometimes it pays off. Its going to cost anywhere from
25.00-60.00 to ship it to the manufacturer and then you might be in for a wait.

A couple more questions, does adjusting the refresh rate make a diffrence on the focus?
Also have yo tried it on another video card just to make sure its the monitor.
You dont have any speakers around it either right?

The monitor is a KDS Avitron 195 (19 inch, .24 aperture). I just had my video card replaced (TNT2 Ultra) so i don't think that is the problem but I may double check.

The refresh button does not improve the condition.
Actually I do have speakers sitting right beside it. Does that matter?

i would try moving the speakers away from the monitor. otherwise, a good tv repair shop should be able to do the interal tweaking for a reasonable price.

2 reasons to the blurriness.
1) TNT2, VERY VERY BAD 2d Filters. Was fuzzy for me at 1024 (Radeon Improved it greatly!) (Explains why it gets fuzzier from 800x600 to 1024x768

2) Youre monitor's just like that. A lot of aperature grill monitors have a higher dot pitch as you move from the centre to the sides. (Happens to my shadow mask mon too). This would explain the fuzziness as you move from the centre of the screen.

DaLurker,

My TNT2 Ultra worked great on my 17 inch at 1024x768. Would a 19 inch make that much difference?

I have noticed that the screen in fuzzy in certain places in the CENTER too and clearer on certain places at the edges. There seems to be no consistency.

Any more thoughts?

By the way, Which Radeon card did u get?

thanks
