Blurry Monitor?

Hey all,

Today i let my dad on my secondary computer, checking it out and what not and he decided to downloaded a bunch of updates from windows update... Including service pack 3 for 2000..

Anyhow, i come in to check it out and now the left hand side of my monitor is extremely blurry... Especially at 1024... if i bump it down to 800x600 its not quite as bad...

i unistalled my videocard and reinstalled... check refresh rate... and did last known good config...

What gives?

Anyhow, as far as i can tell it does not seem blurry in the BIOS...

It has to be some sort of software issue, or something in an update...

But what could it be?
 
what monitor, what graphics card?

check to make sure the monitor cable isnt loose.

does your monitor have a degauss feature? try that.

Radeon 8500 LE 128 meg...

NEC FE700+

Everything was working perfect until my dad downloaded all available updates... I used degauss already...

This has to be involved with an update...
 
try reducing the refresh rate? Typically sharpness will increase as you lower the refresh, so maybe some screwball install resulted in like 120hz refresh. Drop it to 60 as a test.
 
Still blurry even at 56 hertz... What the hell could have caused this thing to do this after some so called harmless windows updates...

I'm tired of people screwing my setups up!
 
why don't you just reverse the update/service pack and see what happens?
I set up a system once which had an 8 meg rage pro (xpert 98 thank you very much 😀) and using the windows XP stock drivers the image was very blurry. It looked like a monitor defect. Using the drivers from ATI's site (alternate) fixed the issue. Did windowsupdate change the drivers?
 
Well considering i removed my video card from Device manager and reinstalled drivers from ATI's site i don't see how it could be video related... I'll see if my dad archived the files for sp3, because if not i might not be able to remove it.

Sounds to me like your monitor is starting to go south. Try monitor with a different graphics card.

Why wouldn't the monitor be blurry at 800x600 though?

Odd.
 
Check in device manager and make sure your monitor is in there.
Windows service packs sometimes replace it with default as it happened to me a couple of times.

I think my monitor may have went south out of NOWHERE... i just got done reformatting... (yes, lost everything again)...

Still blurry at 1024, i guess i am going to have to call NEC.
 
Guess your right, im guessing screwed monitor...

Now i do have a question, i just had a serious power surge recently and it damaged my motherboard, soundcard and power supply...

I did however file a claim and am receiving compensation for it.. Do you think that the surge could have affected my monitor? And if so do you think Belkin would be willing to add that to the list of damaged parts considering what happened? Or would it be too late?

I had a Mitsubishi Diamond scan monitor (3years old), and last summer during a heat wave I heard a big spark noise come from the monitor. Hmmmmmmmmmm ? I thought, that didn?t sound too good. Display quality of the screen was terrible after that even thought the monitor still worked.

Well its very possible that happened here, only with a surge...

But do you think Belkin will replace since i already reported my claim..

They support up to $25,000 hooked up to it!



 
Not that i can tell,

I even reset the monitor to factory settings, with no luck..

Anyone else!?
