Blurry HDMI/VGA monitor

Hey everyone,

I posted a thread about this a few days ago, but I have enough new information about it I thought I'd start a new thread for simplicity's sake. Anyways, here is my problem, it's an interesting one.

I recently (a week ago) built a new computer, and plugging the computer into a monitor I already had causes the monitor to be blurry and overscanned using HDMI, or terrible ghosting over VGA. It's a Hannspree HF257 I bought about 2 years ago. Anyways, here's what I've figured out:

  • The monitor works fine, and has worked fine for a long time, when using it as a monitor for my laptop
  • I can take the same HDMI cable that's blurry over my Hannspree, plug it into my ASUS, and it works great
  • The Hannspree is blurry using both the Intel integrated graphics and Nvidia GTX 660

At this point, I think the problem is with the computer thinking the monitor is more of a TV device than it is an actual monitor, so it's changing some settings it shouldn't be. That said, I've messed with seemingly every setting possible and can't get anything to work. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks again everyone.

Did you set the resolution to the native resolution of the monitor?

A computer doesn't differentiate between a tv and a monitor, only resolution.

I have never heard of a person having a blurry monitor.

The computer is set at 1920x1080, its native resolution. If I cut about 50 pixels off the height and the width, it fits the screen correctly.

The reason I mentioned that is because I read about an ATI "HDMI AV" setting that was causing some people problems, although that's obviously ATI and not NVidia.

But agreed, I've never heard of it either. Unfortunately I must have some extremely obscure problem...
