While I was setting up my new WiFi enabled BluRay player, it got me thinking. This thing has:

A broadband connection to the Internet
A version of Java that is probably WAY behind on security updates
A DNLA connection to your other networked equipment in the house
Possibly some sort of attached USB storage device
And lazy end users who's probably never updated the firmware on them unless they get a disk that doesn't play right

Is it just me, or are these things just ripe for some type of exploit?

Hacked for what reason? To watch what disc you have on there?
AFAIK, they are locked devices, non programmable less they make their own firmware and hack the companie's server to replace the original firmware with the fake one?...just guessing as i don't think it's setup like Android where anyone can make their own apps but i maybe wrong.

Much better things to hack out there regardless.

I'm thinking that they might be an easy way to make a botnet for DDOS attacks. Don't forget they also have your Netflix user id/password and possibly your Amazon.com ID as well if they use unbox.

But, hey... I'm no black hat hacker.
