BLUR - also disappointed

🙁🙁

Game is on PC/PS3/Halobox

This game IS mario cart. The visuals make it a little more serious, but if you've played and gotten over Mcart, this will only feel fresh for an hour or so.

Everything about the game adheres to the tried/true formula of M-cart.
=Controls, Gameplay, Tactics, Appeal=

Winning is still "luck" intensive. Unless you're playing the AI, and broke gamers w/ their hd3800s

The art direction needs some work, the colors schemes for the environments are terrible; the road becomes hard to distinguish from the ambiant. 25x16 calibrated w/probe, so it's NOT my monitor.

PC performance is ok, though others do complain of "sub" 60s even on 3ghz i7s

Wrong...it's not nearly as good as Mario Kart. I tried the beta and was pretty dissappointed.

Of course it is. That's what it's been advertised... a grown up version of Mario Kart.

I wasn't really complaining. I'm critiquing, haha.

Nothing about it is grown up really..

Grown up would be, a welcome screen that says:

"Thank-you for purchasing this motivational DVD, Now get off your ass and find a job." :sneaky:

I thought the demo was a lot of fun. I guess I didn't realize the game was out, but I may pick it up at some point.

What did you think it was supposed to be? Did you buy it without researching or even knowing the smallest bit about the game?

I thought the beta was decent but I don't have time to play it so I passed.

From a guy on AVS:

Penny Arcade tells you Everything You Need To Know About Blur.

Is Blur as bad of a knock-off of Mario Kart as Sega & Sonic racing? That game was almost an exact clone of Mario Kart Wii, down to the very mechanics (drift, accumulate sparks, then boost) and items (3 Mario Kart green shells are now 3 green punching gloves, lol!)

Personally, I've been having a blast with this game. The single-player campaign sucks balls and should mostly be avoided. The multiplayer though is good fun, though the races can get a bit annoying. I can't count how many times I've been doing and ended up getting dog piled by everyone so that I lose in the end. 🙁

As much abuse as the game has taken from me, I'm going to pick it up today at Best Buy. You can get it for $10 + tax with Coupons.

I did this yesterday and played a bit last night after RDR DLC. I played the beta once for about 30 minutes and thought it was fun but never revisited. I'm enjoying the full game so far. I completed the first portion of the single player and raced once online (and won!). I do like that there's enough going on that winning isn't necessarily everything (although placing matters in single player).

I think I'll definitely get my $10 worth if I haven't already.

I'll try to get to get it for $10 myself (or at the very least $20). Saw this on slickdeals a few days ago, and I completely forgot about it.

Yea, it's pretty fun so far. I'm terrible at it though online. I'll get in first place, and somehow I screw it up if someone behind me doesn't do it for me.

The choice of vehicle can make a big difference. I played the demo a lot and also making the custom add-on packs to fit your playing style (offensive vs defensive) can have some impact as well. i am picking it up for $10 tonight too (and bringing the official best buy response from their forum about the coupon stacking), to avoid any issues at checkout.

Could you link me to said response?

Odd change of plans. I'm trading Blur for another game that I want that's tough to find...although I have another coupon, mayhaps I'll be bad and head to a different BB tomorrow and pick up another copy 😛

The game is definitely worth $10. I've had a lot of fun playing it with my friends online. Although I do agree that there is a good bit of luck with placing in the top three. The crazy thing is that there are players out there who consistently place first - I don't get it. I really enjoy the game regardless of where i place, which is usually last or second to last ;-)

wanted to add that the one area where i am disappointed is the lack of split-screen system link support. The PG series always supported split-screen system linking (ie. 2 players per console; system linking with 3 other consoles for 8 players max on a LAN).

Once you get the hang of things, it becomes more about skill and less about luck (well there's still luck). You won't do terribly well in Blur if you fire off all your weapons the first chance you get.

Especially once you ever do get in first place, you need to collect nitros, shields, and barges ONLY. Nitro for speed, and the shields and barges protect you pretty well from incoming shunts.

Also, don't just drop mines behind you, shoot them forward as well as they can go a pretty good distance.
