Bluish diagonal lines running down my monitor... help?

I have these bluish diagonal lines that go down my monitor. Each line has about 1 inch of space before the next line down. There are bout 20 of them and it's extremely annoying when contrasting with black space. Is there anything I can do to fix them? Just to make sure you guys don't misunderstand me, they're not moving.

Whats your monitor and whats your computer?

Have you tried the monitor on a different computer or a different monitor on your computer?

IBM p275
Nvidia GF4 440MX
A3000+
MSI Neo2

I haven't tried it on a different computer. I don't have another one ;(

How old is the monitor?
I get the same on black backgrounds.
Might be to do with age? (5 or more year old Dell P991, Sony Trinitron I think).

Might be time for a monitor/vid card change. If you have an extra vid card laying around, try it on there. If it persists, I think its time to say goodbye to old bluey.

EDIT: I once read in a maximum pc fan mail that one guy had troubles with his monitor so he cut thru the casing and put an 80 mm fan that sucked the hot air out and his troubles were gone. I don't reccomend you go cutting your monitor's case, but put your hand around the vents, are they abnormally warm? If so, try putting like a desk fan there to see if it helps with the wierd colors.

The monitor is almost 4 years old. It persists with different vid cards 🙁

However, I leave my computer running during the night (although I shut the monitor off usually) and all throughout the day. Perhaps I should let it cool down? The monitor does seem quite warm.
