Hi,

I see bluetooth speakers all over the place BUT is it possible to hook them up to an A/V receiver. I have a 2014 Onkyo receiver with bluetooth but I was told that bluetooth speakers cannot be hooked up to it due to that's not the way it works. It doesn't transmit bluetooth out but rather in. SO, Im wondering if there's some kind of adapter or whatnot if you will to attach to an A/V receiver to make it so you can use bluetooth speakers with it?

Any advice and help would be much appreciated. Thank you!!

Short answer: no, receivers are meant to be hooked up to unpowered speakers.

Long answer: you might be able to rig something with a product like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Miccus-Home-RTX-Bluetooth-Transmitter/dp/B00713RSE0

But at that point you aren't using the receiver as anything more than an AV switcher, and the latency will be impossible to match (FORGET about using bluetooth speakers just for rear 5.1 speakers for example).

There are bluetooth transmitters which accept any source and will output to bluetooth speakers, and with aptx you can keep the quality loss to a minimum, but if you intend to match the sound up with wired speakers you may run into a sync issue, ie the bluetooth may create a delay. Aptx has a new profile called Aptx low latency, but getting both a transmitter and receiver that supports it can put you down a few dolla bills, and it is still a hack job.
