I was reading a difference between 4.0 and 4.1 is interference with 4G LTE with 4.0. Why is it that there are no bluetooth 4.1 dongles but plenty of 4.0 (on Amazon)?

Just bought 4.1 earbuds, and was hoping to get a 4.1 bluetooth dongle for PC too. But they all seem to be large adapters rather than the small USB plug. Should I be concerned with the interference issue, technically speaking?

Wow, so I didn't realise how many of our wireless techs were using the 2.4ghz spectrum. WTF guys, way to drop the ball. It is sad to see the oldest user of it, wifi, has so much tech in place to play nice with other radios, while of course LTE acts much like their parent and are being total assholes about it.

rh71, I don't think this applys to you though, it looks like the 4.1 and lte coexistence boils down to phones having direct control over which one is sending signals out from the phone at any one time and is designed to help phones not overlap their own signals. " Bluetooth and LTE radios can communicate in order to ensure transmissions are coordinated and therefore reduce the possibility of near-band interference."

Since neither your pc/laptop nore headphones have LTE, it is a non issue. It does not seem to help from interference on lte towers, namely because you cannot tell a tower when it can and cannot send. ;)

Bluetooth v4.2

Bluetooth v4.2 was released on December 2, 2014. It Introduces some key features for IoT. Some features, such as Data Length Extension, require a hardware update.[71] But some older Bluetooth hardware may receive some Bluetooth v4.2 features, such as privacy updates via firmware.[72]
The major areas of improvement are:

  • LE Data Packet Length Extension
  • LE Secure Connections
  • Link Layer Privacy
  • Link Layer Extended Scanner Filter Policies
  • IP connectivity for Bluetooth Smart devices to become available soon after the introduction of BT v4.2 via the new Internet Protocol Support Profile (IPSP).
  • IPSP adds an IPv6 connection option for Bluetooth Smart, to support connected home and other IoT implementations.
Bluetooth v5

Bluetooth 5 was announced in June, 2016. It will quadruple the range, double the speed, and an eight-fold increase in data broadcasting capacity[73] of low energy Bluetooth connections, in addition to adding functionality for connectionless services like location-relevant information and navigation.[74][75][76]
It is mainly focused on Internet of Things emerging technology. With about up to 2Mbit/s of throughput and up to 300m range, the release of products is scheduled for late 2016 to early 2017.
