So my 07 3-series only has bluetooth capabilities for the phone, and not for audio/Spotify.

I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to play audio through bluetooth, the one caveat is that I want my phone to autopair to the device whenever I'm near, i.e. I don't want to have to go into my phone settings to connect it to the bluetooth every time.

I have something similar for my home theater but I do have to manually pair it when I want to connect to it. Any suggestions?

New head unit (I'm guessing you knew that and have ruled it out, but just in case).

Yup. My 09 Camry-series had bluetooth, but was limited it what it could do. Got new Alpine single DIN with bluetooth, HD radio and Pandora controls under $200. Blows the old stereo away. Sound is fantastic and bluetooth usually connects automatically (after initial setup). Occasionally, I have to turn off bluetooth (on the phone) and then turn it back on. Get yourself a car dock and you are golden.

That's weird you have to manually pair your phone to your HT every time. I have a Jeep GC and if my Bluetooth is enabled on the phone, it'll connect when the car turns on. I don't think the Jeep is special in that either, so I imagine modern head units would act the same way.

What s44 posted is probably your best bet though. You won't get to see what's playing like you would with a modern stereo, but it's a cheap solution if you have an aux port.

I get in my car, not only does BT reconnect, PowerAmp auto-resumes playing the last track.

I'm guessing its all what version of BT? (4.0?)

look into grom or usa-spec adapters. They spoof an xm radio connection or a cd changer connection, and work with your car's steering wheel and radio controls.

not nearly as easy to set up as plugging in a BT aux adapter though. they need to be wired to the back of your radio. (although in some cars the xm/cd changer connection is in the trunk, in which case its super easy)
