Blues Screen when replacing Motherboards with different chipsets

When i try to replace a motherboard that a different chipset than the previous one, i keep getting blue screen even when trying to get in safe mode.
This happens even if i try to get in safe mode and only in Windows 2000 and Windows XP. In windows 98 i can get in safe mode with out any problems and remove the previous devices from the device manager, or even get in the normal mode. I would be gratefull if somebody knows how to bypass this problem in widnows 2000 and windows xp. Thanks!

Upgrading/changing your mobo is a serious system change and I have always recommended people just reformat/reinstall .... There is an FAQ however, so consider yourself FAQ'd.

If you have the old motherboard put it back in. Look on the Win2k cd or WinXP cd for a program called sysprep. Run that program within windows. It will reset all the hardware so that the next time you reboot it will redetect your hardware. Always run this before a motherboard swap

Hi, thanks for the reply, my problem is that i can't find this file in the cd rom of windows 2000 or xp. Do you know if there is a place to download it?

I thought it was on the cd. Must not be. At work we had our custom cds so one of the guys most have added it to the cd. We use the application to make hardware independant ghost images with all our software installed.
