Blueprint for multi-bay hard drive enclosure build?

I have seen a couple of posts on creating a multi-bay hard-drive enclosure, but I have to admit that, as a noob at this, I?m still pretty confused. I edit video, and I?m just tired of having to deal with half a dozen single-unit external enclosures. I would like to be able to put half a dozen 1tb SATA drives in one enclosure. I don?t care about speed: USB, Firewire, ESata are all equal to me. I will be spending what for me is a ton of money on the hard drives themselves, so I would like to build something that is as basic (read: cheap) as possible, while still being solid and durable. I don?t care if the build is not elegant because it has to be better than the snarl of cables and enclosures I?m dealing with now. Though RAID would be nice, it?s not necessary. I also don?t need NAS because I?m just linking to a single computer. The only thing I would like to be able to do is to turn off the drives I am not using, for all the obvious reasons. I was thinking of starting with an enclosure like the Mapower 5.25" 9-Bay External Enclosure (Link), into which I would put three 1tb drives to start. After that, I?m lost. Specifically, I don?t understand where, if the external enclosure does not have a motherboard, brackets and such go, and what you attach the hard drives to. I?m not a complete idiot: I have built several computers. But I just haven?t found a good blueprint for this kind of build.

So: can anyone send me to a step-by-step guide to building a multi-bay storage enclosure, with perhaps links to the necessary components?

Thanks for the help.
