hi, i recently put together a new computer and i've been plagued by blue screens, i havent been able to trace down the problem and i'm in dire need of some help/suggestions. about a week after i put everything together i had my first blue screen and eventually it got the point where there computer would randomly blue screen. after reinstalling windows everything seemed fine for a week or two, until the blue screens started up again. reinstalled again changed the RAM timings and messed around with a few things in bios. i thought i had fixed the problem, until today, after running great for a little over a month with the new RAM timings, the blue screens are back. i forgot the mention another issue i've had with the computers power supply, well, atleast i think its the power supply. sometimes im unable to boot up and i'm forced to open up the case and un-plug and re-plug everything back to get the computer to boot up. i can only guess that this is an issue with either the hard drive or the power supply even though alot of the issues seem to point to the RAM i really dont think thats the issue though, anyway, here are my specs:

AMD 64 3200+ running cool & quiet
K8T Neo-FIS2R K8T800
CMX512-3200LLPT
Seagate 160 gig sata hd
400 watt Antec psu
ati 9800 pro 256

anyone with the same mobo please help me out! i'm about ready to give up and send everything back. and can anyone tell me where and if windows logs blue screen erros to give better insight into the issue

go to administrative tools-->event viewer and look at all the errors. post them if you don't know what they are, and we can tell you what they deal with.

If you boot in safe mode, does it bluescreen?

I'd be happy to look at the dump - follow all the steps in my .sig's URL (do all the updates, including Windows updates) and then after you've done them all and rebooted, send me a dump that's created after that point, and run MPS Reports and send me the .cab file too.

Typically a STOP D1 error is a driver issue.

See what I said above - I'm happy to look at the dump to tell you why it crashed, if it's a software issue.

It could be a power-saving "feature" in the BIOS or in Windows if it has problems at idle and not during heavy use.

i havent had the time to work out the issue, anyone know of any issues with java and sp2? dclive, as soon as i have time i'll go through that process you've mentioned. my best guess is that its an issue with the PSU, is there anyway i could check if i have a faulty mobo? keep the suggestions coming.

IvanAndreevich, im sorry but what do you mean by bad caps? jumpers?

i decided to RMA the mobo and buy a new power supply, we'll see in a week if that fixes all of the issues, i have some questions though, i have a 9800 pro and i noticed the letters on the chips on the back of the card seemed faded, is this normal? i dont think this was part of the issue but i'm just curious. i also have a question about cleaning off the processor, someone mentioned rubbing alcohol is this right? the SATA drive should have two plugs connected to it correct? one which gives it power and one that transfer information? i know these questions seem a bit odd but im just double checking everything and making sure i havent taken something said out of context.

and can anyone explain what this means on the msi web site:

"Due to the High Performance Memory design, motherboards or system configurations may or may not operate smoothly at the JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) standard settings (BIOS Default on the motherboard) such as DDR voltage, memory speeds and memory timing. Please confirm and adjust your memory setting in the BIOS accordingly for better system stability.
Example: Kingston HyperX DDR500 PC4000 operates at 2.65V, 3-4-4-8, CL=3.
For more information about specification of high performance memory modules, please check with your Memory Manufactures for more details. "

Even easier - just send me a memory dump & MPS Reports and there's a good chance I can tell you what's wrong. No changing hardware required....

Mail me the memory dump(s) and MPS Reports after you've updated all drivers on the system, and I'll be happy to look and see if I can tell you what the problem is.

Also, again, does this happen in safe mode?
