Blue screen

My computer has crashed a couple times recently, both times the speakers made weird cracking noises. Now, on my desktop icons with blue (QuickTime, for example) are purple.

Is it my graphics card? How can I tell?

Should I do prime/performance tests to see what device is crashing?

Unless whatever caused the crash damaged your vid card, it could also be your monitor or the cable from your vid card to it. Try connecting another monitor to your system or your monitor to another system to isolate the problem.

Alright, I'll try re-connecting it.

Why would my sound be cracking up, along with the purple shading?

Reconnected the monitor, nothing.

Reset the BIOS configuration stuff (but not CMOS), nothing.

I got into safe mode after a few restarts and it looked good, but I went back and windows crashed at the login screen. Could I have downloaded something malicious? I tried getting into safe mode with networking, but that also crashed.

Thanks for you reply, Harvey :)

Sounds like a dying vid card. If you have a spare one sitting around, try popping it in.
