after trying to install an additional stick of RAM, I began having problems w/ WinXP showing the Blue screen: hardware configuration problems, restart your system or uninstall recently installed hardware.

So, I took out the ram I added, but my system still shows the blue screen with my original RAM in by itself. When I lowered the fsb on my Samsung PC3200 to 166MHz (my original Mem stick), then WinXP does not complain or show the blue screen. But when I bring the fsb back to 200MHz (where I've been running for close to a year) the blue screen comes back.

This is very strange, because at 166MHz system runs fine. I wonder what went worng! Also, when I install and run the new stick (Kingston) by itself system works fine too. Now, why I could not get the Kingston and Samsung to run in dual channel is another story/deal that I can think about separately.

What part of my system got affected by memory swaps, that it does nt want to run at 200MHz fsb????

BTW, my sys config:
ASUS A7N8X DELUXE ULTRA 2.0
AMD ATHLON XP @ 200MHZ X 11.5
SAMSUNG 512MB PC3200 CL3
ANTEC TRUE 480

Firstly, it is my impression that you *need* matched sticks of ram (same brand, same size, same quality) to run dual channel. Also, try using memtest86 on your ram to see if they are stable. If you get even 1 error, your ram is not stable. Try swapping the mem slots you are using. Generally, your motherboard will prefer to use 2 out of the 3 slots. Also, make sure that when you run your samsung at 200fsb, you are giving the right amount of voltage and that your latencies are correct. You might be able to force single channel mode by filling your ram slots 1 and 3 (slot 2 empty) but im not sure about that.

Hope this helps.
