Blue Screen when Accessing CD-ROM

Everytime I try to access my 2nd CD-ROM drive XP Pro will lock up and do a physical memory dump. I can put a cd in and it will display the title of it in My Computer, but if it tries to access it any further I get the blue screen.

I've checked and double checked my connections and everything seems fine. I've rotated RAM around and have removed RAM (just one stick that i thought might be suspicious)

Specs:

Freshly installed XP Home w/ XP Pro Upgrade Service Pack 1
DFI Lanparty UT 250gb
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Sony DVD-RW
Samsung CD-RW <--- The problem child
GeForce4 4200Ti 128mb
Western Digital 80gb
Seagate 120gb SATA

512mb of BestBuy RAM (2 sticks) Unknown brand at the moment
256mb unknown

Thanks in advance.

To put it bluntly, if it's a Samsung then that's usually the problem right there.
I have a Samsung DVD reader and it's crap- I think it's about to die. Everything Samsung I've ever had has been shite.

Get yourself a new one 🙂

Well, it's nice having 2 cd-roms. the cd-rw was also a dvd-rom so it was nice when it came around to backing up my DVDs.

I think I need a faster memory module.. It recommends DDR 333 & DDR 400

I'm using PC3200 and 2 stick of PC2700 (same thing)

Which is what i'm using...hrmm...
