I began experiencing multiple random crashes. I ran system restore and continued with the same problems. I ran system restore again and the system restarted- it hung on the welcome screen- I hit the reset button and the machine powered off and since then will not power up. The LED on the motherboard is on but nothing will turn on. Iam mailing system back to the vendor for repair but am curious if anyone has any idea as to what could havehappened, ie the motherboard, power buton on the case, power supply etc.
System is an Asusk8v deluxe, Athlon 64 fx 53, antec power supply, 1 gb ram and 250 gb hdd and 6800 ultra gpu.

Definately a hardware issue. Bad PSU, bad mobo (seen a lot of these lately - I think there's a lot of bad capacitors out there again).

Spooky dude.

Check this:

Asus A7N8X-delux mobo,
1gig ram (2x512s)
6800 GT video
Antec Power

I start getting software errors - crash when launching EE2 specifically, then a lockup during next boot. I system restore, it comes up. I have the problem again and then system restore isn't fixing it. I reset the mobo via jumper, it posts once, but locks during OS load. I'm seeing poor 5v readings in bios and it's posting about 50% of the tries now. I bust out the multimeter and a resistor, jumper the PSU on and sure enough my 5v line (I forget which one) is reading 4.5v.

I bought a new power supply and all is immediately perfect.

The Asus mobo, 6800GT and antec power are all similar to yours so that's noteworthy but not a huge deal. Here's the spooky part:

This is the 2nd time for me. Yep. 2nd Antec PSU that's failed on me with a low 5v line. This most recent one was a truepower 430. I think the last one was a 550. It's all warranty stuff so I have another 430 in it, but if this thing goes again I'm gonna start getting suspicious of that mobo or GPU.

Keep in mind I've spawned one of them plus Antec is a popular PSU. It might just be a little statistical bump. Antec has a good reputation. I'm still in the "Yeah, but what have you done for me today?" group myself :p

Over the last month or so, there have been a few posts with Antec psu owners, where it turns out that there was a prob with the psu.

The thing is, that, as Smilin rightly pointed out - Antec is popular, and so be it.
Also, Some of these psu's weren't exactly brand new. -

Maybe i should learn when to keep it shut
