blue screen right after bootup

i installed nav 2004 and did pretty much standard maintenence (spyware removal, windows updates) on a friends xp pro laptop but when i restarted the machine after the NAV install once the wireless card initialized at the end of all the programs loading, it blue screens and says IRQ less than or equal to. I turned off the machine and took out the wireless pc card, and it booted up fine. i even put it back in when the machine had finished booting and it worked. i was able to get online and everything. i uninstalled the old drivers reinstalled them. and restarted the computer with the pc card still in. i got the blue screen again when everything finished loading (i even disabled the third party wireless utility from booting, i even uninstalled NAV and still blue screen of death). any ideas here? its a siemens speedstream pc card 802.11b.
