I keep getting knocked out of windows by a BSOD pretty much every time... I now have an unknown device in device manager that I can't figure out what it is...

I recently went from a 7900gt to a x1900xt but i did driver cleaner, etc. and games run fine... Is my PSU flakey? I have a Seasonic S12-500...

How can I figure out what this "unknown device" is!!! Thanks.

What category is it listed under? Does it tell you what it's connected to (PCI, USB, etc)?

It's listed under "Other Devices" and even shows up when I boot into safe mode...

I unplugged the fan header for my PSU and I think that got rid of one of the two "unknown devices"... There is one unknown device left and it says (under properties) that it is on the PCI bus but I have no PCI devices plugged in! help!

I had this exact same problem until yesterday. On my latest Windows install, I used chipset drivers which I had downloaded from the ASUS website and it turned out that they were missing some of the utility drivers that came on the original mobo CD.. Cool n' Quiet and AI NOS drivers, etc.

Your problem, like mine, is not a physical device, but lack of a software driver for a built-in mobo feature. You need to go into device manager and get the device instance ID. Google it and you should be able to find people with the same problem... then you can determine specifically what drivers you need to install for Windows to recognize the feature.

Well I have figured out that the "unknown device" is a TV Tuner card that is not plugged into my systen but somehow Windows thinks that it is olugged into a PCI slot...

I see the info in the registry... but can't seem to delete the key.

Anyone know how to get Windows to stop thinking that there is a TV Tuner plugged into the PCI slot or how to clear out the registry or disable the values in the registry? thanks
