Blue Screen of death after hardware change

I bought a used ASUS A8N-E machine that had an AMD Athlon64-3200+ and a GeForce6800GT card. I owned it for about a week, all was well. I then bought an OPteron170 and a 7900GS card. I installed the Video Card first. Booted the computer up, and since the drivers used by the 6800GT were the latest available from NVIDIA, I ignored the install CD that came with the 7900GS. Satisfied that the install went well, I shut down the computer, and put the Opteron in. The BIOS recognized it immediately, and I briefly ran Half Life2 and Halo, to see what difference there was. I can put my computer into standby by pressing the sleep button on the keyboard. So that is what I did. I left home for a couple of hours. When I returned, I tried to wake the computer up, and got the Blue Screen. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers-using the driver/setup folder that was already in place on the harddrive. In other words, I did not download a fresh file from NVIDIA and execute it. I'm not sure that it would make any difference anyway, but I don't know. For what it's worth, the computer behaves as expected otherwise-great graphics, speed, etc. Also-it ONLY gives me the blue screen when I wake it from standby. If I shut the computer down, and cold boot it, it boots fine.
Here is the gist of the blue screen: "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your system.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If this is the first time....if not, follow these steps(Basically check hardware, software, call manufacturer, use safe mode, yada yada)
TECH INFO:
***STOP: 0X000000D1(0X00000081, 0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0X86390888)
Beginning dump of physical memory"
These stop codes are consistent-the same numbers show up every time, but, again, only after awakening the computer with the keyboard.
I also downloded a dual core optimizer from AMD and installed it to help with 3D graphics performance. Since the machine runs fine while it is running, I figure there is no need to uninstall that optimizer. Again, not sure, haven't tried it yet.
I called the card manufacturer(BFG) and they wanted so much info, including brand name of the power supply, how many amps on the 12volt rail, various serial numbers, my shoe size, etc.,etc., that I could not provide him with everything he wanted without opening the box and tearing it apart. This after a 20 minute wait before I got a chance to talk to him. He suggested I uninstall the drivers and run driver cleaner, but that the folks who make driver cleaner now want $10 for the utility. As dumb luck would have it, I had driver cleaner on my other harddrive, but deleted it in trying to gain some space. When I did use it in the distant past, I don't recall that I got any satisfaction from it anyway. Any ideas? Thank you for your attention, and hopefully, any suggestion(s).
