I'm doing a fresh install of Windows 98 SE and usually I don't have this kind of problem. This has been a stable machine and has worked for about 2 years, but when I install a game and go to play it, just before the graphic screen appears I get the following:

fatal exception 00 at 0028: C023DB7F in VXD VDD(09) + 00001803

Since the only thing I had done was to upgrade the BIOS, I returned it to an older version but the same thing happens and the same exception "fatal exception 00 at 0028: C023DB7F in VXD VDD(09) + 00001803" occurs.

How does one find out any useful information about this exception?

Thanks.

I googled it. Looks like a vid card driver problem. Go try the newest drivers for win98se. Or if you have those already, try an older one. I liked the ones from May '03 IIRC.

I'm using a PNY ti4200 card and I've been using the latest drivers. I think I'll go for another one.
Thanks.

I couldn't download an older driver from nVidia's website however, I was really lucky and found the CD that orginally came with the PNY ti4200 and now it works just fine. It would seem that the new drivers from nVidia don't work for my ti4200, atleast when I use it in a win98se machine. In addition, I installed the directX 8.1 that was on the same CD. Before I had 8.0 so that may have been the issue.
Thanks again, Fern.
