The HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray war will come down to price. The initial prices matter a lot less than how much these guys will cut the prices. Whoever does the most aggressive cost cutting will win, IMO.

how about everyone wait until the format wars are basically decided?
and dual-players will be out soon enough that play both formats.

reason i say wait, is even if one is more expensive and all people hate blu-ray.. if the studios favor blu-ray, like they do at the moment.. then blu-ray will be the victor.

Wait for dual players or go the fun route and get a 360+HD-DVD and a PS3. That way for a little more than $1K you get 2 consoles plus both movie formats!

The PS3 is blu-ray, yes... but what I would like to know is if the PS3 OR the 360 have HDMI out? As far as I can tell... the HD/Bluray players can upconvert standard DVD's only if you have an HDMI connection so that might be an issue with the PS3/360. But I don't know if I even know what I'm talking about.

HD-DVD plays regular DVDs, and most HD-DVD discs have a "regular" DVD version on the flipside... How hard is it to choose?

Die, Sony!!!

PS3 premium($600) will have HDMI out. The $500 version dosent have hdmi out and thus should not be able to play blu ray movies(HDMI or DVI is a required standard for the Blu-Ray DRM).

The Xbox360 is supposededly going to do HD 1080p with just Component out, aka DRMless analog signals, but since the hddvd drive is still sorta far off, dont quote me on that.

Well that blows. PS3 has the output I want but 360 has the format I want. Ah well, I'll just get a fully dedicated HD player then, that at least has HDMI + HD-DVD. And certainly not priced at a friggin $1000.

The next wave of HD-DVD players from Toshiba is supposed to come out soon (October)
Think I saw it on UltimateAVMag.com

Either way, HD-DVD makes more sense than Blu-Ray - it's cheaper now, and looks like it's where the future is headed (in my humble opinion). Look for one that has great DVD-upconversion too: might make it seem a little more worthy.

Wait until October and get one of the Gen 2 HD-DVD players.

HD-DVD may also have some more companies behind it soon. I've heard that Lionsgate will also release on HD-DVD at the start of 2007. Also heard a rumor that Disney is currently waiting on Q4 results and may support HD-DVD as well.
