blue orb users help me out

Hey I just installed a blue orb on my Geforce 2 GTS and I think the fan it to loud for my likeings. Anyway I was wondering if I don't oveclock would it be safe to keep the fan unplugged? I am useing ASII on the GPU. If you all think it would hurt my card is there another way without having to remove the blorb? Could I maybe mount a quieter fan on it somehow?

Thanks

Hook the fan up to the 5v lead instead of the 12v. Assuming the fan even spins at that voltage, it should quiet it down quite a lot.

Do a 7 Volt mod like I did to my CORB. Instead of using +12 (yellow) and GND (black), use +12 and +5 (red). The difference in potental between +12 and +5 is +7. Basically, switch the black wire for red.

hey oldfart-

can you instruct me on which wire to pull out because i am new at this modding thing.. right now the blorb is connected to a 3 pin to 4 pin PSU adapter for my psu, but I have a 3 pin slot on my motherboard still.. i'm not sure which wire to switch and i don't wanna do anyhting rational to screw up this card so can you or anyone out there help me out..

thanks!

The easiest way to do it would be to mod that 3-pin to 4-pin adapter. Looking at mine, I'll try to list the steps:

Find the Female 4-pin connector, it's the one that you would hook to the power supply line
you'll notice the red & black wires from the BLORB running to the yellow & black wires of the PSU.
If you pinch on the contact side of the pins, you should be able to back them out of the plastic casing.
You'll want to back out the pins for the RED wire (Red wire of the adaptor) and the BLACK wire (the one with the lead going to the BLORB, closest to the YELLOW wire), and switch them.
You should now have your wires going BBRY versus the RBBY that they were before.
This will cause the fan to cross the +12 & +5 volt lines, making +7 volts. That should be more than enough voltage to keep the GPU cool & be quieter.

That last post I made got me thinking & I just did the mod myself. Boy did it make a difference. Took all of 3 min. to do as well.

Yes, the main idea is to connect the red wire from the BLORB to the Yellow wire from the PSU & the black wire from the BLORB to the Red wire from the PSU.
