I'm about to order a T-Bird and I was wondering if you guys could tell me where to order one from so that I will be sure to get the blue core.

Thanks!!!

I believe that all T-birds come from the fab in Germany and thus have blue cores. The durons are made both there and here in Texas (green cores). The difference in color is due to way in which the chips are polished at the different fabs.

All TBirds do not have blue cores! How do you explain the green ones I have here? :)

There are Blue and Green cored T-Birds. I doubt there is anywhere you buy from, that will guarantee you a Blue Bird.

Damn!! Is there really that much of a difference between the two then? I've read that the blue tend to overclock better and that's why I was looking for a blue cored T-Bird.

Blue= Copper interconnects, and there is no doubt that the fab in Dresden has higher yields as well. :)

to gaurantee yourself a blue core tbird, get a 1.1 ghz or above. to give yourself a really good chance at getting one, get a 1 ghz. they only use the blue cores for the chips that are 1 ghz or above, but they use the green cores in chips up to and including 1 gig. i don't know of any stores taht specifically sell the blue core chips, but there you go. if you're planning on buying an 800 or 900, then you're going to have to be happy with the green core.

well what do you know, all the information one gains in the forum isn't always right! ;) for the longest time in this forum we've all heard that the blue cores only came on 1 ghz+ chips due to their high potential. i've never heard anything official from amd, but that was the concensus of the board. if you really got a blue 800mhz, than that definitely proves that theory wrong. i can only think of three possibilities as to why this happened:

1) amd didn't have enough production out of their texas fab plant, and so they basically underclocked that dresden core to make it run at that lower speed - in which case you could overclock it to over a gig with no problem.

2) it's a dud dresden core and could only run at that lower speed in which case you probably couldn't overclock it at all.

3) you looked at it wrong and it's really a green core. i don't mean anything personal, but a lot of people have difficulty telling the colors apart. you'll see a lot of posts asking how to tell and there's all sorts of tips like "tilt it away from the light at an angle with a full moon and blah blah blah blah..." if you say it's ablue core, then i believe you though.

hnic: you should try to overclock it to see how high it can go, and shinerburke, this new info certainly doesn't narrow down your search.

Heh, from what I see it's definately a blue core :) I have yet to overclock it since I haven't unlocked it yet.

Oh well...I've just about decided to wait until the 1.2ghz 266mhz part comes out anyway.

Ummmm. Amd makes blue core Tbirds as low as 750mhz. Theres no specific speed for a blue core , however Ive heard that 900mhz and above are all using copper interconnects. If u want a blue core 750 check out pcnut.com
