Yeah, Blue Bell announced a layoff at their distribution center here. :( Tracking down a source of contamination can be enormously expensive and time consuming.

We had a newly built energy drink plant here that never opened for full production because the company that built it could never get the pasteurization working correctly and ran out of money trying. They eventually sold the brand new plant to a another company that took another year to get it running.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox...a_crisis_takes_jobs_from_1_450_employees.html

1,000 employees laid off.
1,400 furloughed.
Essential employees to work at reduced pay.

75% hit on their workforce. Wow. I tried to find a stock price but it's apparently a privately held company.

I was hoping to hear that the CEO made like a 12 million dollar mid-year bonus or something. :p

P.S. How do I shorten links?

Ouch.. that's a shame. I liked Blue Bell ice cream, too. Their pistachio almond flavor was yummy.

Sucks that the brand is going under, but they brought it upon themselves. A link from that slate article pulls up another link that they had positive listeria tests back in 2013 and had a few other problems that didn't meet safety regulations --- then chose to ignore them. They made a decision based off greed and it bit them in the ass.

Sounds similar to the PCA incident in 2009, where they intentionally shipped contaminated products. The trial finally happened (or started) a few months ago but I don't know if they were sentenced to prison (yet).
