Blue Angels over Miami!

They're flying really low over Fort Lauderdale Beach! I'm getting an eyeful from my hotel room balcony. I'm surprised they're allowed to practice over an urban area and so close to FLL.

HOLY CRSP! That one was close!

(I'm at the Marriott Beach Resort in Ft Lauderdale)

You sure they are practicing and not performing at an air show?

They've been at it since lunch, which was ~3 hrs ago. Too bad I only have my crappy cell phone camera. It's different watching them from a building instead of ground level.

They will show up to an area a couple of days prior to an airshow to "practice". It allows them to get aquainted with the area, develop/locate landmarks and get a feel on how the wind currents act near the area that they will be flying at.

This is standard procedure for any military airshow.

I see.

It's a good thing that they were close enough to clearly see the markings. Else I'd be wondering if a terrorist attack were imminent.

Get to the air show and watch the C-130 'Fat Albert' and it's JATO take off.
That's as impressive as the rest of the airshow.

They'll be here in Fort Worth nest weekend, & I can get to the Lockheed side of the runway to watch . . .
and it's ALMOST . . but not quite . . . too close.

The sneak pass has always been my favorite. 700mph at 50ft

As the announcer says, 'Everyone - pay attention to the 4 planes coming this way from the South . . .

he doesn't mention the lone wolf at the treetops lining in from the East

. . . at 0.93 Mach

BOOM !

they'll be at my brother's graduation in two weeks...he's graduating from the naval academy. w00t!

oh, and ft. lauderdale is NOT miami.

I was surprised to learn from the Military Channel documentary that the Blue Angels pilots don't wear g-suits. Apparently they interfere too much with the precise stick and throttle movements they need to make.
